In 2006, I started my own company making small batches of backpacks and satchels by hand under the moniker 'Sketchbook Crafts'.
I chose this format because of its inherent utilitarian properties. It is very important to me that my energy and time spent making would result in a useful product for everyday life.
As years went by and designs came and went it became very clear to me that my main interest was in creating unique and innovative textiles. This was the main driving force behind the design of these products.
Then, in 2012 I began apprenticing at a weaving studio in Eugene, Oregon. It was my hope to extend my knowledge of textiles. The Handwoven Backpack is the result of my effort to combine my interest in utilitarian day wear and handweaving.
Hand-woven panels from my very own Macomber loom are sewn into this roll-top backpack. The weaving is made with 100% wool yarn and felt and represents the dedication and energy that goes into not only the finished piece, but also in this case, the raw material. Each piece is made with a high attention to detail and offered in small batches. Three colorways are available for purchase at www.sketchbookcrafts.com
